So long and thanks Milan: See you next year in Kuala Lumpur

Yesterday, the 15th October 2017, the 30th IFTA annual conference wrapped up in Milan and, based on posts and comments in social media, delegates and speakers judged it a success.  In case you didn’t get to go, here is a link to their official web site where you’ll get a glimpse of what was in store.

The title of the conference, ’Sailing to the future’, allowed them to go beyond pure technical analysis, exploring the sea of opportunities originated by new “quant” generation technologies, markets and instruments. They also explored cross pollination between TA and other fields like economics, behavioural finance, artificial intelligence, big data, crypto currencies, and Block chain.

On the Tuesday 10th October, en route to Milan, a delegation from Malaysia popped in to our regular monthly STA meeting.  Such a nice surprise and a super opportunity to meet members of the Malaysian Association of Technical Analysts.  Led by Dr Nazri Khan, they had another trick up their sleeve.

With a flourish and a brief Power point presentation they told us that, with support from the Ministry of Tourism, they would be hosting the 31st IFTA annual conference in October 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.  Outlining some of the treats in store for attendees, including mouth-watering food and a benign climate, it would be a great opportunity to discover this beautiful country.

Language is no barrier for English speakers and, as Katie Abberton reminded me, there are close links between the UK’s STA and its Malaysian sister association.  In fact, Katie herself was on hand to greet them, with Mark Tennyson d’Eyncourt manning the barrier at our regular venue.  Talking of which, after out Christmas party on Tuesday the 12th December, regular STA monthly meetings will be held at the ‘Walkie-Talkie’ building at 20 Fenchurch Street, London EC3M 3BY.
