Offering for the festive season: A gift for all from the TA

For years now STA members have had access to videos of guest speakers’ talks at our monthly meetings, available in the members’ section of our web site –

Now, thanks to the efforts and industry of a STA Committee member, we plan a series of educational videos about technical analysis which will be available to all and sundry in the blog section (home page top right) of our internet site.

We kick off, appropriately, with the basics thanks to Dan and Jason at The Chart Guys. Aimed at total beginners, but quickly moving on to some fairly complex charts, they focus on the core building blocks of the analysis.

Based on a series of screenshots, with a moving pointer and cursor, the initial Lesson Outline helps you decide whether this is for you and which section you might want to focus on; handy, as the video runs for 41 minutes. Rather sweetly, Dan suggests that a minimum of 12 hours should be spent on technical analysis study. I think professionals in every sphere of endeavour would suggest that, it is actually a lifelong process. On the plus side, the lesson is, as he says, a way of ‘keeping one step ahead of the herd’.

There are one or two very small factual errors, and his charts are rather busy, but there are some really good ideas thrown into the mix.  For example, to stick to the same colours for each of your lines, moving averages and so on; thus there is no need for a legend box which may obscure the chart.
