STA Blog

And the correct answers are: To our special Christmas quz

Just before Christmas we posted the quiz questions, organised by Clive Lambert, on our blog – an entertaining game for the holidays. Testing the ‘specialist skills’ of the audience at the STA’s December party, they got into the spirit of things, gasping and booing, sighing and cheating, as they raced against the clock to answer the 40 questions.

Having allowed members and regular readers to have a good stab at things, and probably with a little help from Google and other more reliable sources, I’m fairly confident that you will have done better than those on the 11th December.

Below are the correct answers.

Round 1: Mystery charts

  • Bitcoin
  • Brent crude
  • Spot gold
  • FTSE 100
  • Dow Industrials
  • Sterling/US dollar

Round 2: Where?

  •  Chicago
  •  Kuala Lumpur
  • Paris
  • Milan
  • Vancouver
  • London (Waldorf)
  • Lugano
  • Sarajevo
  • Sydney (Opera House)

Round 3: Who?

  • Greenspan
  • Gordon Brown
  • Warren Buffett
  • R N Elliott
  • Donald J Trump
  • Mark Twain

Round 4: What?

  • Parabolic SAR
  • MACD
  • Bollinger
  • ATR
  • 26-day moving average
  • 200-day moving average
  • RSI

Round 5: Chart pattern emojis

  • dead cross
  • hammer
  • double top
  • bear flag
  • double bottom
  • key reversal day
  • ascending triangle
  • vomiting camel

Round 6: When?

  • November 1987
  • December 1999-January 2000
  • March 2003
  • March 2009

Some questions are worth more than a point, making the maximum possible score 62. Not exactly charades or karaoke, but a little bit of fun anyway.
