STA Summer Party & Awards Ceremony – July 2017
The evening started with the presentation of STA Diploma certificates to the latest cohort of successful candidates. Only some of the many who studied were able to be there in person as they live far away abroad or because of prior commitments, but we were delighted to welcome those that could make it. The ceremony was followed by a light-hearted talk by Stephen Hoad before members mingled during the summer drinks reception.

Zaheer is regularly invited to guest speak on his much sought-after but little understood approach to trading and also contributes to FX Street and FX Trader Magazine. He first presented at the STA back in 2014.

Rajan Dhall has been trading/investing professionally since 2007, managing various funds. He is a full member of the Society of Technical Analysts and is also a Chartered Financial Technician with the International Federation of Technical Analysts. Rajan has vast experience, in developing and testing complex trading systems, focusing on the equity, futures and foreign exchange markets. He also provides market commentary services to many dedicated investors, traders as well as financial institutions and hedge funds. Rajan believes psychology is the key to trading success and focuses on this aspect in all areas of trading.

STA Monthly Meeting – March 2017
The talk will be preceded by the latest STA Awards Ceremony for those students who recently achieved MSTA status and the award for the 2016 Bronwen Wood Memorial Prize. This event was postponed following the threatened underground strike earlier this week.
Shaun is Head of Technical Analysis at charting software provider CQG. He provides daily research to CQG clients such as banks and hedge funds and is highly regarded for the reliability of his market forecasts. He is also a partner at Oasis Research.

The concept of cycles is very popular among technical analysts. Books and articles define them in various shapes and lengths. They are also very appealing to investors since they imply the old idea of buying low and selling. Unfortunately, trading is not that easy and in reality, identifying and measuring cycles properly seems to be very hard. Most of the tools suggested fail since asset prices behave non-linear and most of the properties are time depending. This presentation describes a technique to identify cyclical behaviour called Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD).
Rolf Wetzer, PhD, is past president of IFTA. He redesigned the CFTe syllabus, was the editor of the IFTA journal and is heading the MFTA program since 2011. He is a member of the Swiss Association of Market Technicians (SAMT) and the prestigious German Statistical Society (DStatG). Rolf is a portfolio manager with a twenty-year track record of managing institutional and private assets, heading teams and trading successfully proprietary money within major financial institutions. Currently he is CEO and co-founder of Ghiribizzo, a company specialized in algorithmic trading of proprietary money.

The STA meeting programme will start the year with a special panel of speakers giving their outlook for the market in 2017. The panel will be chaired by Nicole Elliott MSTA, known to many of you as Trending@sta-uk.org and author of the STA blog. A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (BSc Social Psychology) Nicole has worked in banks in the City of London for the last 30 years.
Stéphanie is Senior Technical Analyst, joining SG CIB in 2006 where she first developed the Commodity technical analysis before developing and coordinating the cross-asset technical analysis with a special focus on Forex and Rates. Stéphanie has 15 years experience in technical analysis on various financial markets and from 2000 to 2005 she lectured technical analysis at Paris IX Dauphine University to BSc students.

Chris Clarke is Managing Partner, Lawrence Clarke Investment Management LLP. After spending 10 years in the City as a senior trader, primarily as Executive Director at Goldman Sachs, Chris left to trade his own money. After 5 years of research, design and testing of systematic approaches to futures trading Chris set up a fund in 2005 which subsequently became a fully FCA regulated UK based investment management business in 2010.

Russell Napier, ASIP, is an independent strategist at and co-founder of ERIC, an online platform for the sale of high-quality individually priced investment research. He is the author of “The Solid Ground,” a global macro report originally published by CLSA and now published independently. Mr. Napier is a director of the Mid Wynd International Investment Trust and the Scottish Investment Trust.

Stephen M Barrett is the author of the very controversial book “From Plato to Wall Street”. It was written as a result of a trade gone wrong in 1983 which prompted him to investigate TIME. From his decoding of Gann’s work “The Tunnel thru the Air” to the mysteries of the Platonic Schools, he has uncovered a remarkable mathematical matrix which determines the Time Cycles for Stocks and Commodities. During his talk, Stephen will show participants Gann’s Master Time Cycle.

Lee Sandford MSTA, founder of Trading College, will be the speaker at the first STA meeting of the Autumn, giving a talk on “High probability day trading strategies”.
Following an 18 year career in professional football, Lee Sandford has traded for nearly 20 years (full time 13 years) and earns his living predominantly as a trader.
STA Summer Party & Monthly Meeting – July 2016
Philip Gray FSTA, a founder member of the STA, will be the guest speaker at the annual STA Summer Party, where he will give a talk on “A Classic Crash – with Chinese Characteristics”.
The event will start with a Diploma Awards Ceremony where certificates will be presented to newly qualified MSTA by STA chairman, Axel Rudolph. Worldwide we have over 40 new MSTAs so far this year and although many are unable to attend this Diploma presentation in person, our congratulations go to all our new cohort.
Philip Gray has over 30 years’ international experience in all aspects of investment banking, especially investment management and stock broking. He has also been a director of various companies listed on the UK, Zurich, Frankfurt and Johannesburg stock exchanges, and is currently a director of an ASX listed industrial company.

David Sneddon MSTA, Managing Director and Global Head of Technical Analysis, Credit Suisse will be this month’s guest speaker. David’s talk is entitled “Multi-Asset and Macro Technical Analysis – Methodology and Views.”
David Sneddon is a managing director of Credit Suisse in the Investment Banking division, based in London. He is global head of Technical Analysis and is responsible for overseeing the entire technical analysis product, covering the Fixed Income, FX, Equity and Commodity markets, as well as the provision of technical analysis education within Credit Suisse and for clients globally.

Thomas Anthonj MSTA, Executive Director and Senior Technical Strategist of FX Strategy, JP Morgan will give a presentation on “Systematic trading based on Elliott-Fibonacci applications”.
Thomas joined JPMorgan in September 2009, taking over the role of FX Technical Strategist. His main focus is on G10 and European currencies where he develops trading and investment strategies, mainly on the basis of Elliott and Fibonacci-applications.

Steven Goldstein is a Performance Coach and Consultant working with traders and participants in the financial markets. He is the founder of BGT Edge Ltd and coaches traders and managers at a growing number of investment banks and hedge funds in the UK and Europe. In addition to that Steven provides technical analysis on a number of currency pairs for 3CAnalysis.

In this talk, Rajan Dhall MSTA will pay homage to the skills he learned at the STA. Raj used traditional tools and adapted them over a 15-year career to create a profitable trading strategy that ultimately led him to manage a group of traders at his new prop firm DND Capital. Rajan will explain how some of the strategies work and explain some of the results he has achieved from the three flagship strategies that the firm utilizes.
